July 2012 YTD Top 257 Best-Selling Vehicles In Canada - Every Vehicle Ranked

2012 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid White
Ranking all 257 automotive nameplates which have been sold in Canada during the first seven months of 2012 isn't the most difficult task GoodCarBadCar undertakes, but it may be the most informative individual posting. Or at least the place where the most information can be found in one place. Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for these vehicles can be accessed through the first dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats home - or near the top right of this page - but in this space, you see year-to-date sales data for every car in one place. And it's pretty cool.

Yes, the Ford F-Series is in top spot. The Honda Civic is Canada's best-selling car. The Dodge Grand Caravan is four spots ahead of the top-selling SUV, Ford's Escape. Canada's best-selling premium brand car, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, can be viewed after the jump in 44th position. Throughout 2012, these facts either haven't changed or have only undergone slight alterations.
2012 Nissan Titan red
1866 Canadians Drove A Titan Home So Far This Year
What you discover when all 257 vehicles are ranked by Canadian January-July sales volume is the disparity between Canada's popular cars and Canada's unpopular and/or niche cars. The Ford F-Series is three times more likely to sell than the common Honda CR-V, but it's 34 times more popular than one of its direct competitors, the 110th-ranked Nissan Titan. And at 110th, the Titan isn't that far down the list. The 68th-ranked BMW X1 sells more than seven times for every BMW X6, Canada's 174th-ranked vehicle. Jeep sells 21 Wranglers for every single Tahoe that Chevrolet sells.

These are big differences, differences which are in some cases expanding rather rapidly. At this point last year the Wrangler only sold 17 times for every Tahoe Canadians acquired. The Wrangler and Tahoe aren't rivals, nor are the X1 and X6. But this sort of a comparison can show the emphasis Canadians place on specific vehicle categories, on lower-priced categories, in particular.
2013 BMW X1
The X1 Is BMW Canada's Second-Best-Selling Model
The ties? Acura, with the ILX, and Infiniti, with the FX. The Lincoln Navigator and Nissan Armada. The Lexus LX570 and Volvo S80. Benz's SLS AMG and the Honda Insight. The Kia Borrego, Cadillac DTS, and Lexus LFA. And finally, the Chevrolet Cobalt and Mercedes-Benz B-Class, both of which sold once in the first seven months of 2012.
2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class
The Second-Gen Benz B-Class Isn't On Sale In Canada Yet
Any extra tidbit we know regarding new car sales in Canada has been inserted into the table below. So you can see the number of Lexus ISFs which were sold within the IS range's total and how many of the Fiat 500s sold have been convertibles. Unfortunately, Volkswagen Canada stopped releasing GTI sales figures, so all we have to offer is the Golf's total. Complain to VW on Twitter here

Again, anything we know is displayed here, so spend your morning and afternoon checking out Canada's 257 best-selling vehicles in the first seven months of 2012. And check out the U.S. version of this list here. Use your Command+F function (or Cntrl+F) to search for a specific car. Italicized unranked lines are nothing more than available breakdowns, already included in the model's total, not in addition to the model's total.

Red font indicates year-over-year declining sales
Italicized unranked lines are nothing more than available breakdowns, already included in the model's total, not in addition to the model's total. Sales data for brands such as Ferrari and Lamborghini are unfortunately not broken down by model. ANDC estimates say sales for those brands through July were 133 and 76, respectively. Total Maserati and Bentley volume is reported, but not by specific models. Maybach sold one car in the first seven months of 2012.
* unconfirmed by manufacturer's monthly report.
