After taking a month off in June, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class was back on top of Canada's luxury car standings in July 2012. Outselling the BMW 3-Series by 136 units, the C-Class propelled forward at a 45% clip from 557 sales at this time last year.
3-Series sales slid 29%, enough to endanger its position as the top-selling BMW. The X1 was only 52 sales behind the almighty 3-Series in July.
Given that some onlookers question Acura's premium brand, the inclusion of the Civic-based ILX will certainly irk a certain reader subset, particularly when GoodCarBadCar continues to disallow Buick. (GM dealers with whom I speak say the Verano is being cross-shopped with the Cruze, not the TSX. More importantly, Buick's image remains tainted, as the very non-premium Century, for example, still casts a mainstream shadow. This doesn't mean the Regal isn't the most stunning sedan on sale today.) Regardless, if it's eligible, the ILX was Canada's 16th-best-selling premium brand vehicle in July, easily outselling small premium players like the BMW 1-Series, Audi A3, Volvo C30, and Lexus CT200h. And what factor will work best to make the ILX memorable? Uh... Acura uses great music in their ads.
Seven of the ten best-selling luxury vehicles in Canada were utility vehicles, generally of the smaller variety. The top-selling U.S.-branded premium vehicle was the 11th-ranked Lincoln MKX; Cadillac doesn't appear until the 19th position.
