Multiple recalls for both the old and new models were enough to bring down U.S. Ford Escape sales, but not enough to give top-ranked status to the year-to-date leading Honda CR-V. The Escape squeaked out a narrow victory over the CR-V in July 2012 but trails the Honda by more than 18,000 units through seven months.
Jeep landed four of its five models on this list of America's 20 best-selling SUVs and crossovers. The company's best-selling model in July was the Wrangler, but Wrangler sales were in decline, year-over-year. America's five best-selling SUVs were all direct rivals. The Ford Explorer, with Police Interceptor Utility sales included, is now 3203 sales ahead of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
11 different brands are represented in July's top 20. Dodge, Subaru, Lexus, Kia, and Nissan participated with one model each. Pertinent links are clickable at the bottom of this post.
