Overall Ford sales were up 15.7% in November but Ford car sales in Canada were up just 1.3%.... until you include the Fiesta. There's nothing like an additional nameplate to fire sales forward, and with the Fiesta's 977 extra sales, Ford car sales in Canada were up 30%. 40% of Canada's best-selling American cars are Blue Oval vehicles, but it's worth noting that only 25% of all Ford sales in Canada last month were cars. (Just 17.4% of Lincoln sales were cars.) It's hard to ignore the Fiesta's impact on the marketplace, particularly considering the prices at which Ford has been selling the Fiesta, but it's hard to call it an outright hit in a month when Honda dealers scurried about to sell 1557 Fits, a 249% improvement over November 2009.Moreover, a slightly newer, somewhat larger American small car competitor has arisen as a darling of the Canadian car market. Sales of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze went from 235 in October to 1308 in November. Yep, that means the Cobalt is still out-selling the Cruze, but that's only because Canadians love cheap cars.Just the one Chrysler product? Well, you're obviously not expecting any Jeeps. And the 2011 Fiat 500 isn't here yet. So that leaves the puketastic Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger, the not-so-great Dodge Caliber, the defunct Chrysler PT Cruiser, Dodge's Viper and Challenger, and the Chrysler 300/Dodge Charger fraternal twins. But as you should've read already, the words "Chrysler" and "cars" are nigh on mutually exclusive terms these days. Thus, Chrysler's 249 sales of the big 300 sedan sneak the Fiat-run company onto the list of Canada's Top 10 Best-Selling American Cars. Changes are afoot: model year 2011 features new engines and new interiors in many Chrysler products. | Rank | Car | Status | October 2010 | % Change |

The all-around success of the automotive industry in the United States in November 2010 (full Sales Stats out soon) makes the red results in the list below a bit surprising. That said, sales of the Ford Taurus, Chevrolet Camaro, and Chevrolet HHR are actually quite strong in context. What is that context, exactly? These are America's Top 10 Best-Selling American Cars in November 2010. As you can see from the horizontal arrows, the six most popular are in exactly the same place they were in October 2010. The Chrysler 300 has been booted off in favour of the Buick LaCrosse while the Chevrolet HHR took over from the Chevrolet Aveo. Perhaps Chrysler and Dodge's revamped 2011 models will make sure they're not absent from this list in the future. Aveo sales, by the way, were up in November; a 47.5% improvement over November 2009, a couple hundred units behind the 2011 Ford Fiesta. But that takes away attention from the Ford atop the list. The Ford Fusion's 28.1% bump brought it close to the Toyota Camry in November as Toyota car sales fell 18% in the United States. | Rank | Car | Status | October 2010 | % Change |

Last month GoodCarBadCar.net expanded its Best Sellers section to include a look at the best-selling cars and SUVs from America, Europe, and Japan. Although not perfect - the 2010 Toyota Camry was built in the USA and the 2011 Ford Fusion is still built in Mexico - these lists looks at the dominant players from the Detroit brands, Asia's strongest car-making country, and all of Europe. It's interesting stuff. For example, as you can see in the list of America's Top 10 Best-Selling American Cars In October 2010 below, the Ford Fusion moved up the list from last month's (slightly different formatted group) on the back of vastly improved October sales. The Chevrolet Camaro, meanwhile, was on this list last month when we looked at year-to-date sales and made it again October 2010 despite sales which fell compared with October 2009. And why the combination of 2011 Chevrolet Cruze and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt? As the Cobalt was to the Cavalier, the Cruze is to the Cobalt: a replacement. Why not pair the two together for the purposes of explicit disclosure despite the name change?| Rank | Car | Status | October 2010 | % Change

When asked to find deals on domestic crossovers for Sympatico Autos, The Good Car Guy instantly began research on vehicles built by Ford, Lincoln, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler. It then became clear that a truly domestic crossover in Canada isn't necessarily built by a Detroit-based automaker, but is actually built in Canada. That list included the Acura MDX and Lexus RX350, for example. For this list, however, "American car" means.... well, American car. The logo on its grille represents an American company, even if said American company is owned by an Italian automaker which also owns Ferrari. The Detroit-based auto industry - General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep - have combined to form 46.3% of all vehicles sold in Canada through the first nine months of 2010. That's up from 44% in the same period of 2009. GM's market share in Canada is down from 17.7% to 15.6% in 2010. Chrysler's market share is up from 10.9% to 13.2% in 2010. And Ford, the beneficiary of all-new models and significant model revamps, has improved its market share more dramatically, taking a whopping 17.4% of the Canadian automotive market, up from 15.4% last year.
Evidence of the Canadian market's price sensitivity is exhibited in the best-selling American car in Canada, the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. Outdated and now replaced, the Cobalt has been available with wild deals; the sort of deals Canadians can't ignore regardless of how stellar the alternatives may be. The 2011 Ford Fiesta, albeit smaller, displays its relatively small sales figures as evidence of the contrary - Canadians struggle to pay top dollar when fewer dollars nets a competent A-to-B car.Of cars built by Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Lincoln, Buick, Cadillac, and Chevrolet, these are Canada's best-sellers from September 2010.

Through nine months of 2010 - that's three-quarters for those with fraction issues - the Chevrolet Malibu is America's best-selling American car.Of course, what determines the Americanness of a vehicle? Does a vehicle need to be built in America, designed in America, and badged with an American company's logo to be considered an American vehicle? GoodCarBadCar.net answers with a firm, "No". In most contexts, an American vehicle is a vehicle sold under the name of an American company. Indeed, for the purposes of a new series of GoodCarBadCar.net Best Seller lists, including this very post, American means sold with an American badge; Japanese means sold with a Japanese badge; and European means sold with a European badge. Jaguar isn't an Indian badge, no matter how great Tata's influence. The Good Car Guy has every intention of making this a monthly addition to the Sales Stats roundup. To go along with it, the best-selling American SUVs in America, the best-selling Japanese cars and SUVs in America, and the best-selling European cars and SUVs in America. Hopefully the same will be done easily for monthly roundups of Canadian Auto Sales, too. Here then are the best-selling American cars in the United States through nine months of 2010.
