Indeed, CR-V sales are on the rise, and it's Canada's second-best-selling utility vehicle this year. But the Escape wasn't the only SUV or crossover to outsell the Honda. Ford sold more Edges, one more in fact, and Dodge sold more Journeys.
The Escape, meanwhile, was significantly more popular than even Canada's best-selling car. Ford Explorer sales jumped 18%; Ford Flex sales shot up 72%; and the Ford Expedition found more than four times as many buyers as any other full-sized, truck-based sport-utility vehicle.

Combined, the GM quartet of jumbo Chevy and GMCs trailed the Expedition by 37 units. Incidentally, in a market that's risen 7%, sales of every large SUV save for the Good 12-winning Chevrolet Suburban are on the rise, from Toyota's 3% jump in Sequoia volume to the Chevrolet Tahoe's 21% increase.
In other SUV/crossover news, the majority of Nissan utilities tanked in July (compared with July 2011), the Mini Countryman accounted for 23% of Mini brand sales and 4.6% of all BMW Group volume, the soon-to-be-defunct Hyundai Veracruz has posted a 49% sales increase in 2012, and an excellent July propelled the Jeep Grand Cherokee's year-to-date lead over the Ford Explorer to 312 units.
