Despite sales which fell 16.4% year-over-year the BMW 3-Series retained its best-selling luxury car in Canada crown in July 2011. Vehicles which we'd tenderly call "stiff competition" couldn't come close to the 3-Series' declining total. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class, for example, was 386 sales back; the Audi A4 593 abaft; the Infiniti G 636 behind.
For the third consecutive month the Mercedes-Benz GLK was Canada's favourite premium utility vehicle. Sales fell by three units year-over-year (and 20.7% from June) but the GLK still had the Lexus RX (down 34.2%) beat by 67 units.
Really expensive machinery doesn't often make appearances on Canada's list of the 30 best-selling luxury vehicles. Whereas Americans acquire copious amounts of GL-Class Benzes and Range Rover Sports, vehicles which retail for more than $70,000 in Canada, the most expensive vehicles on this list feature base prices closer to $60K than $70K. Three cheaper vehicles on this list aren't even on sale in America: BMW's X1 has a base price of $38,500, the Acura CSX starts at $24,290, and the Mercedes-Benz B200 is a $31,650 mini-minivan.
There are 17 passenger cars on this list; 13 premium SUVs and crossovers. There are 15 German-branded vehicles, nine Japanese, four American, and two Swedes. All 30 of Canada's best-selling luxury vehicles in July 2011 are in the table below.
If you don't agree with the inclusion of the Acura CSX or the inexpensive Mercedes-Benz B-Class or the combining of Volvo's S40/V50 sales, the following vehicles were next up for induction: Volkswagen Touareg (very premium in price, you see), Acura TSX, Volvo S40 (by itself), Volvo S60, Lincoln MKS, Lexus CT200h, Volvo XC90. Total Hyundai Genesis sales reached 489. South of the border this would have garnered the Genesis a spot, but Hyundai USA releases Genesis figures as one vehicle. In Canada, we know only 81 of those 489 sales were Genesis sedans.
