It would've been a rare occasion had the Ford Fiesta not been the best-selling car in the United Kingdom. Indeed, July 2011 marked no such rare occasion. According to SMMT, Fiesta sales remained level as its year-to-date total rose to 58,338. Ford's own Focus was 460 sales back; 1113 sales ahead of the Fiesta-fighting Vauxhall Corsa.
The UK car market declined 3.5% year-over-year. 33.2% of the UK's 131,634 new vehicle sales are represented in the best-selling cars table you'll see below. The Fiesta and Focus combined to form 70.9% of all Ford UK volume in July. Compare that with Ford in the United States where the same two nameplates made up just 11.7% of Ford's July volume.
Another interesting comparison with the United States involves the number of brands represented in the list of the top 10 best-selling cars. Seven different automakers made their way on in the United States but only five in the United Kingdom. No luxury brand climbed higher in America than the BMW 3-Series in 16th, but in the UK the very same car ranks seventh.
