The Ford Escape was the best-selling SUV in Canada in July 2011. Falling sales meant the Escape was one of five out of 10 best-selling SUVs to report year-over-year declines.
Ford Escape sales were down 6.1% in July, slightly worse than the overall market's 4.9% drop. The fifth-ranked Chevrolet Equinox suffered a slight 2.6% decline. Sales of the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Hyundai Tucson were also lower this July than they were in July 2010.
Most notable among the five improving utility vehicles was the second-place Dodge Journey and its 38.1% jump, equal to 855 extra units for Chrysler Canada. Hyundai Santa Fe sales were up 15.2%. Jeep posted a 28.3% bump in Wrangler sales. The Ford Edge (+12.7%) and Kia Sorento (+48.5%) fell in line rather nicely.
Through 2011's first seven months the Escape's lead over the Dodge Journey stands at 8314 sales. The Journey's lead over the Santa Fe is 3601 sales. Though Honda struggled to move them in the second quarter, the CR-V is only 270 sales behind the Chevrolet Equinox year-to-date. Together, the ten utility vehicles you see in the table below formed 13.9% of all Canadian new vehicle sales in July.
