Yesterday, when GoodCarBadCar published a chart examining October 2011 sales of small and lower-priced luxury-branded cars, the frequent use of red font clearly indicated that sales were falling. There is very little red font in the first table below, the list which includes smaller luxury sport-utility vehicles and crossovers.
The Acura RDX out-sold the Acura TSX and Acura CSX. The Audi Q5 was not able to move past its sibling, the A4, but the A3 was no trouble whatsoever. Audi sold 2.4 times more Q5s than A3s in October 2011. The BMW X1 and BMW X3 combined to out-sell the BMW 1-Series/BMW 3-Series duo. The $41,950 Cadillac SRX beat the Cadillac CTS by 93 sales. Volvo's XC60 beat the Volvo S60 by 29 units. The aging Infiniti EX couldn't compete with the Infiniti G, however. And Mercedes-Benz's class-leading GLK couldn't bring in enough buyers to match the output of October's best-selling luxury vehicle, the C-Class Benz.
Lo and behold, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque went on sale in Canada in October. 108 Evoques were sold. The second table shows that Land Rover sold more Range Rover Sports in October than Evoques, but the gorgeous $46,995 Evoque had a good start, out-selling the LR2, LR4, and Range Rover.
Speaking of the Range Rover Sport, Porsche sold only one Cayenne for every 3.5 Range Rover Sports Land Rover Canada sold in October. The Range Rover Sport was more popular than the Audi Q7, BMW X6, Infiniti FX, and Lexus GX, among others. Range Rover Sport sales jumped 42% in October and are up 26% through ten months.
Sales details for the LR4, Range Rover Sport, and other larger and more expensive SUVs can be seen after the jump. Keep in mind, all these sales figures can be seen in GoodCarBadCar's new searchable sales database in which monthly (back to January 2010) and yearly results (back as far as 2002) for specific models can be easily found.
