Minivan Sales And Truck Sales In America - March 2012

March 2012 U.S. truck sales chart
U.S. Truck Sales Chart March 2012
176,990 pickup trucks were sold in the United States in March 2012. 33% of those trucks were Ford F-Series pickups. Three other full-size domestics - the second, third, and fourth-best-selling pickups in America - accounted for another 44% of all pickup sales. Designed-for-America Japanese trucks, both the smaller ones and full-size pickups, combined to form 17% of the market. This left four small American pickups, the Cadillac Escalade EXT, and Chevrolet's Avalanche to clean up with 11,298 more sales.

No truck recorded a greater year-over-year gain than the Chevrolet Colorado, sales of which jumped 43% in March. In the first quarter, the GMC Canyon's 38% boost was better than any other truck's increase. Frame it another way, however, and you discover that there've only been 840 more Canyons sold this year than there were at this point last year

Meanwhile, Ford F-Series sales are up by 17,200 units. This means the F-Series' gains are greater than the total sales of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon combined. The Ford was previously honoured with the best-selling truck crown at the beginning of the month.

Detailed monthly and yearly sales figures for these trucks and every other vehicle can be accessed through the dropdown menu at GoodCarBadCar's Sales Stats home. You can click on either of the two charts for a larger view. After the jump you'll see two tables full of March and Q1 sales figures, both for pickup trucks and minivans.

The two best-selling minivans in America in March and the first quarter of this year were both Chrysler products: the Town & Country and Dodge's Grand Caravan. Year-to-date, 48% of the minivans sold in the United States have been of the Chrysler/Dodge variety.
