Basically one quarter of all Canadian new vehicle sales made by premium automobile brands in March 2012 came about in Mercedes-Benz dealerships. Another fifth of the market went BMW's way.
Compared with the same chart from a month ago, Mercedes-Benz and BMW both reported a market share increase. Acura slid from 10.2% to 6.5%. Cadillac and Infiniti both moved up by slightly less than a percentage point. Lexus gained half a percentage point and nearly ended March with one out of every ten luxury vehicle sales. The RX350 accounted for 34% of all Lexus sales; the CT200h, Lexus's best-selling passenger car, another 15%. Volvo made significant gains as well, moving up from 3.6% in February to 4.8% in March.
Canada's best-selling luxury vehicle in March was the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, sales of which improved 1.5% year-over-year. The BMW 3-Series was up 5.3% but ended March 90 sales behind the C-Class. The top-selling car from Canada's third-ranked premium brand, Audi's A4, jumped 30.1% to 744 sales in March. Brand-by-brand volume numbers for the automakers shown in the chart below were published at the beginning of the month.
