Top 25 Best-Selling Cars In Canada - 2011 Year End

2012 Honda Civic Sedan profile
As was the case in the last month of the year and the three months before that, the Honda Civic was the best-selling car in Canada in 2011. Civic sales slid 4.2% year-over-year - it had looked like it would be a lot worse than that before a December surge - and the Honda compact beat the Hyundai Elantra by more than 10,000 sales. Elantra sales, in other words, needed to be 23% stronger in order to gain the victory. Put another way, the Civic crushed every competitor. It was not close.

The Elantra was among the cars which reported year-over-year increases. Among the 25 best-selling cars in Canada, only ten did found more buyers this year than last. And two of those ten weren't even on sale for much of 2010, meaning the year-over-year increase was easy to come by. Aside from those two cars, the Ford Fiesta and Mazda 2, the best-year-over-year bump came from Volkswagen's Jetta. Remember, unlike the U.S. Jetta figures which include a wagon, the Golf Wagon is aptly named Golf Wagon in Canada. As for year-over-year improvements, Chevrolet Cruze sales were indeed up 965%, but in comparison to the Cruze's successor, sales rose just 16.1%.

The Canadian automobile market was 1.9% stronger in 2011. Any car performing with growth greater than that figure was rockin' and rollin'. Canada's best-selling subcompact was the Hyundai Accent, sales of which tumbled 7.2%. Canada's best-selling midsize car was the Ford Fusion, sales of which fell 5%. The best-selling hatchback-only car was the Toyota Matrix, sales of which plunged 22%. Meanwhile Canada's best-selling premium car was the BMW 3-Series, and in the current 3-Series' final year sales slid 19.9%.

Have a little respect: numbers are numbers, and these models showed up, found buyers, and beat out dozens of other cars. The 25 best-selling cars in Canada are displayed below. Detailed sales figures for all these nameplates and every other vehicle currently on sale can be found by accessing the dropdown menu at the top right of this page.
