With a year-over-year jump of 51% the Hyundai Elantra was once again the best-selling car in Canada in June 2011. This is the fourth time in 2011 that the Elantra took home the monthly best-selling car crown. Year-to-date, the Honda Civic remains ahead thanks to an overpowering March in which Honda sold twice as many Civics as Hyundai sold Elantras. 1473 of the 4975 Elantras sold last month were Elantra Tourings. Touring sales were up 41%, sales of the sedan rose 55%.
Americans made the Chevrolet Cruze their best-selling car in June. That wasn't the case in Canada where, along with one Cobalt, Chevy compact sales improved by 25%, not enough to overcome the Elantra, Civic, or still-declining Mazda 3. The Mazda 3 hasn't posted a monthly year-over-year improvement at any point in 2011.
No longer Canada's best-selling midsize sedan, the Hyundai Sonata fell 31% to 1005 sales, enough to strip it of its place on Canada's best-selling cars list, too. The Ford Fusion is now top dog in the midsize segment with 10,154 sales in the first half of 2011, nearly 900 more than the Sonata. The Honda Accord found its way back onto the best sellers list in June with 13% gains. The market as a whole was up 7%.
In the table of Top 20 Best-Selling Cars for June 2011 you'll peruse below, you will find six "domestic" vehicles, three German cars, four Korean cars, and seven Japanese cars. In total, ten brands are represented on June's best-selling car list.
