Both in year-to-date and in June 2011 terms, the Ford Escape is America's best-selling SUV. Fully six of America's ten favourite utility vehicles are American-bred. There's also a Korean, the Kia Sorento, along with two Hondas and a Toyota.
Honda CR-V sales were down 3.4% in June, a performance which contributed to Honda's overall decline but wasn't nearly as bad as the brand's overall 21.5% drop. Sales of the Toyota RAV4 slid 27.6%, much worse than Toyota's overall 19.1% drop.
Indeed, Ford utility vehicle sales were very strong in June as the Escape posted a 43.3% jump, the Explorer was up 55.6%, and the Edge improved 18.2%. Sales of the Expedition and Flex were off June 2010's pace. America's SUV brand, Jeep, didn't garner such volume but has left Chrysler executives good reason to be in a positive mood after June's data shows gains from every model save the Commander, a now defunct nameplate. No Jeep gain was greater than the Grand Cherokee's 208%, but even the least noteworthy jump in Jeep sales, as posted by the Wrangler, resulted in a 26.5% improvement and the ranking of fourth in this list of America's 10 best-selling SUVs from June 2011.
