Large Luxury Car And Large Luxury SUV Sales In Canada - October 2011

Canada large luxury car sales chart October 2011
Canadian BMW 7-Series sales slid 13% in October, yet the biggest BMW was still the best-selling large luxury car in Canada, 24% more successful than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, sales figures for which take the CL-Class coupe into account.

Despite its freshness the Audi A8 didn't fare as well this October as it did in October 2010. Sales fell 30%, the worst drop in the segment. Conversely, the A8's year-to-date improvement, 84%, is markedly better than the improvement posted by either the Jaguar XJ or Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The 7-Series is down through ten months, as are the Lexus LS and Porsche Panamera. Lexus sold one hybrid LS in October 2011. It costs $121,750.

Yes, that means Mercedes-Benz's S-Class hybrid, the S400, is $13,550 less than Lexus's S-Class-fighting hybrid, the LS600hL. You can also opt for diesel in Mercedes-Benz showrooms. The S350 BlueTec 4Matic is $109,900.

Check out the sales figures of jumbo luxury sport-utility vehicles after the jump. Infiniti QX56 sales jumped 128% in October. Even after doubling QX56 sales, Infiniti trails the three-pronged Cadillac Escalade lineup by 508 units through ten months. The class-leading Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, along with the tremendously wicked G-Class, is a significantly more likely purchase than the Escalade in Canada, regardless.

All these sales figures can be seen in GoodCarBadCar's new searchable sales database in which monthly (back to January 2010) and yearly results (back as far as 2002) for specific models can be easily found. Just check out the dropdown menu at the top right of the page.

2012 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
Yesterday, when GoodCarBadCar published a chart examining October 2011 sales of small and lower-priced luxury-branded cars, the frequent use of red font clearly indicated that sales were falling. There is very little red font in the first table below, the list which includes smaller luxury sport-utility vehicles and crossovers.

The Acura RDX out-sold the Acura TSX and Acura CSX. The Audi Q5 was not able to move past its sibling, the A4, but the A3 was no trouble whatsoever. Audi sold 2.4 times more Q5s than A3s in October 2011. The BMW X1 and BMW X3 combined to out-sell the BMW 1-Series/BMW 3-Series duo. The $41,950 Cadillac SRX beat the Cadillac CTS by 93 sales. Volvo's XC60 beat the Volvo S60 by 29 units. The aging Infiniti EX couldn't compete with the Infiniti G, however. And Mercedes-Benz's class-leading GLK couldn't bring in enough buyers to match the output of October's best-selling luxury vehicle, the C-Class Benz.

Lo and behold, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque went on sale in Canada in October. 108 Evoques were sold. The second table shows that Land Rover sold more Range Rover Sports in October than Evoques, but the gorgeous $46,995 Evoque had a good start, out-selling the LR2, LR4, and Range Rover.

Speaking of the Range Rover Sport, Porsche sold only one Cayenne for every 3.5 Range Rover Sports Land Rover Canada sold in October. The Range Rover Sport was more popular than the Audi Q7, BMW X6, Infiniti FX, and Lexus GX, among others. Range Rover Sport sales jumped 42% in October and are up 26% through ten months.

Sales details for the LR4, Range Rover Sport, and other larger and more expensive SUVs can be seen after the jump. Keep in mind, all these sales figures can be seen in GoodCarBadCar's new searchable sales database in which monthly (back to January 2010) and yearly results (back as far as 2002) for specific models can be easily found. Small/Entry Luxury Car Sales And Midsize Luxury Car Sales In Canada - October 2011

Canada small luxury car sales chart October 2011
October's Canadian sales figures for 36 luxury cars are listed in the tables below. 31 of those luxury cars were eligible to post year-over-year sales declines in October 2011, 21 did so. Of the smaller/cheaper group of 18 luxury cars in the first table, 12 reported drops.

Many of those declines were significant. The Lexus HS250h, rumoured to be on its death bed, slid 84%. The about-to-be-replaced Mercedes-Benz B-Class was down 76%. The BMW 3-Series - its E90 generation dying off - lost nearly half its volume from October 2010 to October 2011. Cadillac CTS sales are up 6% this year but fell 25% last month. The Volvo S40 and V50 are dead - the Volvo C30 isn't, and C30 sales fell 20%. Sales of the Infiniti G are down 18% this year; down 19% in October.

After the jump you'll see the October 2011 sales table and market share chart for slightly larger and/or more expensive luxury cars. There, the anonymous Acura RL, still-fresh BMW 5-Series, dead Cadillac STS, will-it-everbe-successful Infiniti M, just-get-an-XJ Jaguar XF, disconnected Lexus ES, third-gen Lexus GS, soon-to-get-uglier Lincoln MKS, and handsome Volvo XC70 all reported lower sales this October than last. Remember, the Canadian market grew 2% in October and is up 1.6% this year.

Don't forget, all these sales figures can be seen in GoodCarBadCar's new searchable sales database in which monthly (back to January 2010) and yearly results (back as far as 2002) for specific models can be easily found. Just check out the dropdown menu at the top right of the page.
