Top 10 Best-Selling American Cars In America - Through September 2010

Through nine months of 2010 - that's three-quarters for those with fraction issues - the Chevrolet Malibu is America's best-selling American car.

Of course, what determines the Americanness of a vehicle? Does a vehicle need to be built in America, designed in America, and badged with an American company's logo to be considered an American vehicle? GoodCarBadCar.net answers with a firm, "No". In most contexts, an American vehicle is a vehicle sold under the name of an American company. Indeed, for the purposes of a new series of GoodCarBadCar.net Best Seller lists, including this very post, American means sold with an American badge; Japanese means sold with a Japanese badge; and European means sold with a European badge. Jaguar isn't an Indian badge, no matter how great Tata's influence.

The Good Car Guy has every intention of making this a monthly addition to the Sales Stats roundup. To go along with it, the best-selling American SUVs in America, the best-selling Japanese cars and SUVs in America, and the best-selling European cars and SUVs in America. Hopefully the same will be done easily for monthly roundups of Canadian Auto Sales, too.

Here then are the best-selling American cars in the United States through nine months of 2010. The most obvious but important fact of them all? Every model in the list below has posted sales improvements compared with the first nine months of 2009.
