Of the 2 million new vehicles sold in the United States in the first two months of 2012, 4.2% have been Ford F-Series pickups. In the first two months of 2011, the Ford F-Series accounted for 4.0% of the new vehicle market. Yes, the Ford F-Series is still the best-selling vehicle in America, and it's still responsible for four out of every hundred new automobile sales in the United States.
Not that Toyota Camry sales are weak. America's best-selling car is "only" 22,929 sales back of the F-Series - the Camry was 27,998-units weaker than the F-Series at this point last year. America's leading SUV/CUV is on the ups, too, as Honda CR-V sales rose 23.4% year-over-year, an 8284-unit gain over the course of just two months. The CR-V easily out-ranks the Accord to be Honda's second-best-selling model.
More numbers you may or may not find interesting: the Volkswagen Eos is tied for 199th spot in these rankings of every vehicle on sale in America this year. That's one spot ahead of the Mazda MX-5 Miata. The Chevrolet Tahoe has so far proven to be more popular than the Honda Fit, not that a fact like that would have been surprising in 2002, but in 2012 expectations are for weak jumbo SUV sales and strong subcompact sales. The Chevy Suburban is two positions ahead of the new Kia Rio. Chevrolet's Camaro is the 51st-best-selling car in America and the best-selling muscle car, six spots ahead of the Ford Mustang. The Countryman-less Mini Cooper range forms the 95th-best-selling car line in America through two months: the regular Cooper/Cooper S bodystyle accounts for 70% of those sales; the Coupe and Roadster form 9% of the 5761 sales, though it's early days for those two cars. The Countryman forms less than half of all Mini sales.
