Before you consider the fact that the Dodge Grand Caravan was the best-selling minivan in America in February 2012, step back and consult the table below to figure out which minivan ranked second in total sales volume. It wasn't the Honda Odyssey. It wasn't the Toyota Sienna. Dodge's minivan twin at Chrysler, the Town & Country, finished February 55 sales ahead of the Honda Odyssey in the race for second place.
Chrysler Town & Country sales rose 22% in an overall new vehicle market that expanded by 16%. Nissan Quest sales, not surprisingly, climbed faster, but from a much smaller figure to begin with. Sales of the Mazda 5 were disappointing in February. With no rivals, as the Mazda 5 has in Canada as a result of the Kia Rondo's stay of execution and the Chevrolet Orlando's northerly introduction, the 5's low figures only do more to prove that the U.S. market isn't quite sure that truly mini minivans are the way forward.
After the jump you'll find detailed February and year-to-date sales info for each minivan on sale in the United States. There's also a slot for every one of the 16 pickup trucks sold. (There will be 17 pickups on sale in America once the Volkswagen-run Brits introduce a truck version of the Bentley EXP 9F, the Geneva Auto Show's most discussed debut. What, you don't think they'll do it?)
148,956 trucks were sold in February. 31.7% of those trucks were F-Series Fords, sales of which jumped 26% in February and are up 17% through two months. Compared with February 2010, F-Series sales were up 44%. Sales of America's second-best-selling truck, the Chevrolet Silverado, were up 63% compared with February 2010 but climbed just 2% year-over-year. Sales data for these models and every other nameplate currently on sale can be accessed through the dropdown menu at the top right of this page.
