LUXURY CAR SALES IN AMERICA FOR SEPTEMBER OF 2009

As you must remember, this recession was gearing up for full swing. Thus, luxury car sales weren't exactly at their peak. For that reason and because moneyed folk are starting to realize they're still rich, luxury car sales by the stronger luxury automakers were up in September 2009 when compared with September 2008. Year-over-year, Hummer; Saab; Porsche; Lincoln; Infiniti; Acura; Audi; and Cadillac posted lower sales in September.

However, those manufacturers who sell in greater Numbers posted, well.... greater Numbers this year than they did last year. That includes Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW. In the Graph below you can take a look at the Sales Stats of the top nine luxury auto sellers in America. Keep in mind, the tiny trio (Porsche, Hummer, Saab) combined for less than 2,500 sales in September. Click the Graph for a larger view.

CANADA AUTO SALES SEPTEMBER 2009

Once again General Motors tops Ford and Toyota in Canada. And though GM's Numbers in this edition of Sales Stats appear to have taken a significant tumble, GM Canada would like you to know that the four brands in the company's future (Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC) sold at a rate 5.6% higher than in September of last year.

Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, and Audi have already been more deeply analysed here on GoodCarBadCar.net and other automakers will submit to a deeper perusal later. For now, auto manufacturers competing in the Great White North (still quite green outside GoodCarBadCar Towers) are listed below in the order of their total sales.

Don't forget to say a special, "Hello" to Subaru and BMW; both of which posted huge gains last month. Heeeeyyy. Overall, the Canadian car market was down 9.4%. Cheaperish fuel no doubt contributed to the increase in truck sales compared with the very expensive fuel of last September and the correspondingly lower truck/SUV/van sales at that time. Overall, light truck sales were up 4% to 62,034, not far behind the car market's total of 67,469. One example? Combined sales of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra were up 74% in September.

NISSAN CANADA SALES DIP - VERSA & SENTRA PULL THROUGH

Nissan's truck and SUV sales fell off with emphasis in the month ending yesterday. Compared with September of 2008, Nissan's "truck" Sales Stats show a downturn of 23.5%. Car sales, however, were up a substantial 9.4% at Nissan. As a whole, the division's sales were down 0.9% year-over-year.

Thank the Versa and Sentra for pulling things together. Altima, Maxima, GT-R, and 370Z were all down. The Cube, of course, wasn't available last year so Nissan marks its percentage increase as +100%. On the truck side only the Frontier (up 8 units) and Armada (+2 ) posted improved Numbers over September of 2008. The worst showing came from Nissan's minivan, the Quest, with barely any sales to show for itself and a decline of 89.8% from last September. KIA CANADA SEPTEMBER SALES - RONDO WINS

Like parent Hyundai, Korean automaker Kia had a wonderful start to Autumn in Canada this year. September's Sales Stats reveal Kia's totals to be up 19.7% over September of 2008. Over the first three quarters of 2009 Kia's Canadian sales are up over 20%.

AUDI CANADA'S 1,111 SEPTEMBER SALES BROKEN DOWN MODEL-BY-MODEL

Audi, a German luxury subsidiary of Volkswagen, continues to increase its sales in Canada. By way of 38 dealers, Audi's 39-year presence in Canada has resulted in its best September evahr.

FUEL ECONOMY IN CAR AND DRIVER NOVEMBER 2009

Every month almost every car tested by Car & Driver isn't just measured for decibels at full throttle or the time required to travel from 50-70mph in top gear. Most cars are also tested for fuel economy. Are the EPA's numbers not trusted? Not exactly. The EPA's numbers are a lot more accurate than they once were; but real-world driving tells a real-world story.

In the new November issue, pay particular attention to the merits of the good ol' fashioned American V8s of the Corvette and Shelby GT500 Mustang. Although the Mustang accelerates more quickly than Audi's S4; weighs just about as much as the Audi; and puts out an extra 207 horsepower and 185 lb-ft more torque, the Ford V8 returns better economy. And though every car tested this month was particularly hefty and/or wildly sporty, is it not still a wonder that the quickest car was also the most fuel efficient? Head past the jump for details.

HYUNDAI CANADA'S SEPTEMBER/2009 SALES SUCCESS STORY

Exactly one month ago, even at this time of the morning, The Good Car Guy published a complete report on Hyundai Canada's sales success. Once again, Hyundai's Sales Stats in Canada are very impressive; only this time we're talking about September rather than August. Yes, Hyundai Canada is having trouble getting rid of the Sonata. The advent of the Genesis is making it difficult to sell the Azera. And the reality of a soon-coming all-new Tucson makes the current Tucson a tough sell. Also, the Veracruz sells at an average of less than 1 per dealer per month. 

How did Hyundai fare in U.S. sales last month?

Overall, however, Hyundai sold 9,282 automobiles in September of 2009. That's a 30.8% increase over September of 2008, or 2,187 more vehicles sold last month than in the same period of 2008. For all the details of Hyundai Canada's September success, click through the jump.
