Porsche Canada sold 46 Panameras in May. Audi sold 45 A8s. BMW sold 44 7-Series sedans. This tightly-ranked trio trailed the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (and its CL-Class coupe sibling), sales of which slid 18% to 59 in May 2012. This was the first time in 2012 that Audi Canada managed to sell more A8 luxo-limos than in the same period a year earlier. Through five months, A8 sales are now up 13%.

Lexus sold two LS hybrids in May, double the volume achieved in May 2011. LS460 sales, however, slid 50% from an already low 14 to just seven in May 2012. The Jaguar XJ joined the Lexus on Canada's list of worst-selling cars for May.

While all six of these cars are profit generators, none are all that visible in the value-driven Canadian market. In May, a wildly successful month for the A8, Audi's biggest sedan accounted for just 2.7% of all Audi Canada sales. The 7-Series delivered just 1.4% of all BMW customers last month. The XJ was the most infrequent purchase in Jaguar's lineup while accounting for 3.3% of all Jaguar-Land Rover volume. Only 0.6% of all Lexus buyers opted for Lexus's biggest sedan. The S-Class and CL-Class jointly brought in 1.9% of Mercedes-Benz Canada buyers in May. Mercedes-Benz sold more SL-Class roadsters, more SLK-Class roadsters, and eight times more M-Class SUVs. The Porsche Panamera is part of a smaller family, but at 14.8% of all Porsche Canada volume, the Panamera sold just once for every 2.8 Cayennes.
