60% of the SUVs and crossovers on September 2011's list of Canada's Top 10 Best-Selling SUVs sold in smaller numbers this September than last. Considering Canada's new vehicle market shrunk ever-so-slightly in September, this isn't surprising. But the magnitude of some declines is certainly newsworthy.
Escape sales slid 2% in September 2011. That wasn't enough to remove the Ford Escape from the top of the list as the best-selling SUV in Canada. The Honda CR-V was down 30%, however. Dodge Journey sales fell 17%. The Hyundai Santa Fe dropped 40%. Sales of the Ford Edge were off by 28%. The Toyota RAV4 was down 38%.
Lovers of the Jeep Wrangler - GoodCarBadCar.net included - will be glad to know that the 2012's new 3.6L engine (reviewed here), combined with decent incentives on leftover 2011s, propelled the Wrangler upward with a 113% year-over-year sales increase. Kia Sorento sales shot up 80%. The Chevrolet Equinox was up 17%, and together with its GMC Terrain twin found 2288 buyers, enough to rank GM second on this list. Nissan Rogue sales rose 18% in September.
The Good Car Guy will be providing much more in terms of SUV segment sales charts over the next couple weeks under this label. Check out August's best-selling SUV post here, or check this month's U.S. edition here.
