Top 20 Best-Selling Cars In Canada - March 2011

Not only was Honda Canada's March good enough to land the Civic back on top of Canada's best-selling cars list, the Civic also took over the year-to-date sales lead from the Hyundai Elantra. Now at 11,957 sales in 2011, the Civic is 1981 units ahead of the new Elantra.... with nine months to go. Only the Ford F-Series was more popular than the Civic in March 2011. Meanwhile the Elantra dropped from first overall in February to fifth in March. Parts shortages in Japan, along with dowdier styling, could make it more than a bit difficult for Honda to keep the 2012 Civic atop the leaderboard in the coming months.

It appears as though the inexpensive new 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is steadily eating away at sales of the more expensive Volkswagen Golf. Although the Golf squeaked in to the Top 20 Best-Selling Cars list, it did so barely, and it did so despite a sales drop of 51.1%. Nevertheless, in March of 2010 Volkswagen sold 3054 Jettas and Golfs. In March 2011, that number climbed to 3512. 13.5% of Golf sales in March were of the GTI variety.

Speaking of barely squeaking in, that was the Ford Fiesta's route in to the Top 20 last month. In March, however, Ford doubled Fiesta volume to see the smallest Blue Oval car find its way up to 14th spot. That said, the Fiesta still trailed the on-its-last-breath Hyundai Accent, a car that's about to be replaced by something light years better.
