Luxury Auto Market Share In Canada - March 2011

Nearly one in every four premium brand new vehicle sales in Canada were affixed with Mercedes-Benz's three-pointed star in March. More than half of all luxury brand sales occurred in Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi dealers. Throw in 219 Porsche sales for the full German effect.

Yet more pronounced than Mercedes-Benz's 23.2% share of the luxury brand market in Canada last month was the growth posted from Mercedes' 21.7% in February. After an overwhelmingly strong February, Audi shrank back from 13.3% to 11.5% market share in March. BMW, too, lost market share, a whole three percentage points in fact.

For more on the shadow Mercedes-Benz casts in the Canadian premium vehicle landscape, consider the totality of Japanese luxury trio's market share. At just 26.6%, or barely more than Mercedes-Benz by itself, Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti are far from presenting automatic choices when an A4, 3-Series, or C-Class is even a remotely potential purchase. When viewed brand by brand, Mercedes-Benz easily out-sold mainstream manufacturers like Subaru and Mitsubishi, but also shut down the combined efforts of Audi and Lexus.
