Falling sales among Japan's best-selling small cars didn't dent their ability to remain conquerors of Canadian auto Sales Stats in December. Honda Civic sales were down 16%, Mazda 3 sales fell 8%, and Toyota Corolla sales dropped by an astounding 55% compared with December 2009. The Civic remained on top in the last full sales month before Honda revealed concept versions of the 2012 Honda Civic. Starting at $14,990, the 2011 Honda Civic is expected to live a short life.
December sales of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze were strong and at 1551 units, topped the outgoing and deeply discounted Cobalt by 920 sales. A 62% jump by the BMW 3-Series yanked a luxury car into Canada's best-selling cars list while a significant 17% bump helped the Honda Accord beat all midsize competitors. That is, if you don't include the gigantic 2011 Volkswagen Jetta as a direct Accord rival.
Nevertheless, most notable for its transition in December is the Toyota Corolla. You'll notice the absence of the Toyota Matrix on this list, too. Matrix sales dropped 52% in December, Yaris sales dropped 51%, Venza sales plummeted 53%, and Canadian Camry sales dropped at an even faster rate; down 57%.
