Large Luxury Car Sales And Large Luxury SUV Sales In America - December 2010

Glamourous, ostentatious, and outlandish: three fitting words to describe just about every vehicle in the two Graphs below. A status symbol with few peers, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class ranked just third in U.S. sales of large luxury cars in December, but when combined with the strong effort from the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class sport-utility vehicle, Mercedes-Benz's slice of the large luxury vehicle market is gigantic.

You could imagine, however, how a production version of the Cadillac XTS or a vehicle inspired by the 2003 Cadillac Sixteen Concept could propel Cadillac to an even higher level. Discounting the rental car favourite Cadillac DTS, the Escalade trio of luxury sport-utes is left to fend for itself in the flagship arena. Nearly four out of every ten large luxury SUVs sold in America last month were Escalades of one variety or another. Cadillac's SRX and CTS are hits in less expensive categories - isn't it time that Cadillac could compete in the most prestigious luxury car category, too?

2010 Year End numbers for all these vehicles will be published soon. Hang around.
