Hyundai Genesis Coupe sales in Canada rose 66.1% last month. June was a good month for Hyundai, there's no doubt, and the Genesis Coupe's sales jump wasn't even the most noteworthy for Hyundai Canada. Sonata sales jumped 99% from June 2009 and the Tucson posted a 154% year-over-year gain. For the purposes of the Graphs below, however, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe's wild success speaks loudly about the sort of badge required to sell halo cars. Put the Genesis Coupe's June sales (543) in context with the Nissan 370Z's year-to-date sales: through six months of 2010, Nissan has sold 574 370Zs.
Despite the availability of a V10 in BMW's 6-Series, the spectacular driveability of the Audi R8, the easy aggression of Nissan's GT-R, and the beauty of Jaguar's XK, buyers are turning to the more expensive Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG more frequently in Canada. For the second month in a row, the Gullwing-doored SLS AMG beat those other cars in Canadian sales. The SLS is new, true, but it's not hard to see the appeal of a slightly retro car with an engine that sounds like this. Hey, Mercedes-Benz Canada made sure the price came in under $200,000...... at $198,000.
