CHEVROLET vs FORD : BOWTIE vs BLUE OVAL - MAY 2010 IN CANADA

May 2010's automotive sales results revealed the Ford Escape to be more popular in Canada than the country's best-selling car, the Honda Civic. This was bound to make life difficult for the Chevrolet Equinox when it came time for the monthly Chevrolet vs Ford Graph. To be fair, General Motors collected another 883 small crossover sales from the GMC Terrain, too. The Escape's twin from Mazda, the Tribute, deserves credit for 825 more sales.

As seen earlier today in the Muscle Car Sales pie chart, Ford dealers have cut the Camaro's year-to-date sales lead over the Mustang by a healthy margin thanks to a very positive May 2010. 2011 Mustangs really are a very nice car.

Small cars filled up every spot in Canada's Top 10 Best-Selling Cars list for May; well, every spot but one. That went to the Ford Fusion which, in hybrid trim, is a member of The Good 12 v3.0. Chevrolet Malibu sales were healthy in May, nonetheless. Two outgoing models from Chevrolet and Ford, the Cobalt and Focus, continue to sell in decent numbers, a pleasant foreshadow of what could be dominance in the compact sector when the Cruze and new Focus arrive.

Finally, a strange occurrence with the midsize crossovers. Ford's stylish Flex, another GoodCarBadCar.net favourite, fares rather poorly in the United States. Not dreadfully, mind, just not as well as expected. Meanwhile the Chevrolet Traverse, a close relative to The Good 12 Supersize-winning Buick Enclave, is a top-notch seller. Here in Canada, however, we take our style more seriously. The Traverse, though pleasant, couldn't keep up with the Flex or its contrasting white roof in May. True, the Traverse is ahead through the first five months of 2010, but it's still interesting to see a very popular vehicle in the USA succumb to the wiles of its competitors in Canada.
