Top 10 Best-Selling Cars In The United Kingdom - February 2012

February 2012 marked the first time Brits made the Ford Focus the best-selling car in the United Kingdom since January of last year. The Focus's 814-unit victory over its little brother, Ford's Fiesta, wasn't enough to knock the Fiesta off its year-to-date perch. Ford sold 7824 Fiestas in January 2012. No other automaker sold that many copies of a single nameplate through the first two months of this year other than Ford itself with the Focus. Sales of the Focus were up 50% in February but remain down 7% through early 2012.

Compared with February 2011, Vauxhall Astra sales were down 22% last month. The Astra was the UK's fifth-best-selling car in February. Vauxhaul Insignia sales tumbled 19% in February. Because of a good January, sales of those two Vauxhalls are up 25% and 5%, respectively, year-to-date. On the flip side, Vauxhall Corsa sales were up 9% in February but, because of a bad January, are down 7% year-to-date.

Five brands made appearances on February 2012's list of the best-selling vehicles in the United Kingdom. The Fiesta and Focus accounted for 74% of all Ford sales. Not surprisingly, Ford was the best-selling brand in the UK in February. 79% of all Volkswagen sales stemmed from the Golf, Passat, and Polo. Volkswagen was the number two brand in February. GM's Vauxhall brand, meanwhile, found 84% of its sales because of the Corsa, Astra, and Insignia. The 3-Series was responsible for 45% of all BMW sales; the Qashqai pulled in 43% of all Nissan buyers.

The most popular cars in the United Kingdom are listed in the table below. There will be more info on the UK sales scene, by way of the Auto Sales By Brand post, published on GoodCarBadCar in the coming hours.
