WINNING ENGINES FROM MELBOURNE F1

Australia's Grand Prix took place this past Sunday. Or was it Saturday? Or Monday? So confused. Anyway, 'confused' would be an apt descriptor of the bunched-up drivers at turn 1 of lap 1, Mark Webber, Jenson Button, and Giancarlo Fisichella among them. Even some of the points distribution went to DNFs.

Last year's rookie sensation, Brit boy Lewis Hamilton, never surrendered his grasp. With pole position comes much power in a F1 race, and Lewis made good on its promise. Tally 14 points for McLaren-Mercedes, as Hamilton's teammate Heikki Kovalainen finished fifth.

Two Ferrari-powered cars finished in the points, but only just. Toyota propelled Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima into third and sixth, respectively. BMW's Nick Heidfeld finished second and the other half of last year's McLaren-Mercedes feud, Fernando Alonso (along with Hamilton) finished fourth in his Renault. Renault, remember, was the manufacturer of Alonso's two championship winning cars in seasons prior to his McLaren debacle.

No Honda-powered car finished the race, not for lack of engine reliability. Rubens Barichello was disqualified for exiting the pits under a red light. Anthony Davidson in his Super-Aguri Honda was involved in the same accident as Honda's Jenson Button, and Takuma Sato's Super-Aguri Honda had transmission trouble.
