Top 30 Best-Selling Luxury Vehicles In Canada - May 2011

Premium-branded cars aren't supposed to sell all that well. They're more expensive, and thus, they're supposedly, almost automatically, more exclusive. That theory doesn't hold water when it comes to the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, two leaders of this Best-Selling Luxury list which also found a place on the overall Best-Selling Cars In Canada list for May. However, after the C-Class, sales drop off severely. In fact, the final vehicle on this list enjoyed sales which were seven times weaker than the 3-Series and C-Class. That said, sales of that vehicle, the Good 12-winning Porsche Cayenne, were up 303% last month.

No luxury-branded vehicle posted a greater year-over-year May sales increase than the Jaguar XJ. But only 26 XJs were sold last month, not enough to land in the Top 30. It was the Cayenne, Porsche's best-selling model, which reported the greatest increase among luxury cars you'll see in the table below. The Acura ZDX fell harder than any luxury vehicle, but it was so unpopular that it didn't make it in the Top 30, either. Again, as far as cars from this list go, no car posted a greater decrease than the Lexus ES. Sales of the midsize Camry-based Lexus slid 47.5%.

Coming close but losing out to 30 more popular luxury competitors in May were the Mercedes-Benz G/GL-Class jumbo sport-ute duo, Audi's Q7 and A7, Land Rover's Range Rover Sport, and the Audi A3. The Lexus CT200h and the aforementioned Q7 were on the list of Canada's 30 Best-Selling Luxury Vehicles in April but, quite apparently, weren't on the list in May 2011. The two newcomers were Volkswagen's Touareg, in 27th spot, and the BMW X1 way up in 14th.
