October 2012 U.S. Small Luxury SUV Sales And Midsize Luxury SUV Sales

Cadillac's fourth-best SRX U.S. sales month in the last 34 months was also the SRX's highest-volume month in 2012. Lexus still sold more RX hybrids and RX350s, but the SRX increase in October was hugely important to Cadillac dealers which sold far fewer copies of the CTS than they did a year ago.

October 2012 was also a particularly good month for BMW's SAV department. Including the X1, which wasn't on sale in the United States at this time last year, BMW's X models posted a collective 48% year-over-year increase. The four X models were responsible for finding 38% of BMW USA's buyers in October 2012, down from 42% in September but up from 31% a year ago.

42% of BMW USA's October SAV volume was X5-derived, but all four models sold better this October than last. 35% of all Lexus sales stemmed from the RX.

Ten premium luxury SUVs and crossovers from the small and midsize tables below sold less often this October than last. Through the first ten months of 2012, only six of these 25 luxury utilities failed to match last year's pace. One of those in decline has been cancelled by Acura. The Volvo XC90 has been around for a dog's age. And the Land Rover LR4, down 8% in an overall market that's climbed 14%, now has to fight against the obviously less roomy but more overtly stylish Range Rover Evoque in its own showroom.

As will always be the case in the future, historic brand and corporate totals (monthly and yearly going back to 2002) are now available through the dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats page, along with results for more than 260 currently sold vehicles. That's where you'll find out that October was the worst U.S. sales month for the Volvo XC90 in its worst U.S. sales year.

After the jump you'll find detailed October 2012 and year-to-date U.S. sales figures for a bunch of luxury utility vehicles. If the vehicle you're looking for isn't grouped together with these premium-priced vehicles, check out the large luxury SUV section or the mainstream alternative.
