Luxury Auto Market Share In Canada - August 2011

2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe Silver
53% of Canada's luxury market in August 2011 went the way of the German brands. This chart, of course, excludes one-man bands like the $128,895 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 as well as duets sung by the Hyundai Genesis sedan and Hyundai Equus. Even with the inclusion of some niche products from mainstream brands, Germany's domination of the luxury market is palpable.

Of the 11,816 sales represented by all the slices in this month's chart, 8% were 3-Series BMWs. 39% of BMW's August volume was 3-Series-oriented. 3-Series sales fell in August, year-over-year, and BMW's share of the luxury market slid from 21.5% in July to 20.5%. At the same time Mercedes-Benz market share dropped from 19.1% to 18.4%. Audi was basically level, up just two-tenths of a percentage point.

Acura, however, improved from 10.4% to 12.3%. Infiniti moved up slightly less than half a percentage point. Lexus jumped from 8.4% to 10.2% despite year-over-year sales which fell 3.8%. Cadillac was up from 5% to 6.2% but its American cohort, Lincoln, fell hard from 7.1% to 5.6%.
