Fuel Economy In Car And Driver November 2010

Complaints are running rampant on comment boards across the internet regarding the 2011 Honda CR-Z's fuel economy. What's so bad about 36 miles per gallon? Doesn't 36 mpg equate to traveling three times as far on a gallon of gasoline as the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4? Yes, yes it does. But in contrast with the late 80s Honda CRX, the hybrid-engined Honda CR-Z doesn't look so great. Unfortunately, for the car-buying public, the late 80s 49 mpg Honda CRX is irrelevant.

Car And Driver measured the fuel efficiency in 13 of the cars the magazine tested for their November 2010 issue. The 2011 Honda CR-Z, in EX trim, was the most fuel efficient. Average fuel economy in the November 2010 issue of C/D was 18.4 miles per gallon. That's not very good. Until you realize that there was a comparison test featuring five junior supercars and another comparison test with four rather hefty SUVs.

It's not very good at all. Until you realize the average 0-60 mph time in the November 2010 issue of Car And Driver was 6.0 seconds.
