*updated 10.18.2010*
Passenger car sales in Canada were down 11.6% in September 2010. Fortunately, light truck sales were up 21.6%. Combined, this makes September 2010 the third-best September in the last eight years. Not traditionally a strong automotive sales month in Canada, it being the month in which Canadian kids go back to school and parents complain vociferously about forthcoming winter, September 2010 stands out as a month in which most automakers fared rather well.
Rather well? Ford Canada sales jumped 63.9% in September. This includes Lincoln and the Mercury Grand Marquis, at least until these Sales Stats are updated mid-month. Only seven brands in the list below posted lower sales this September than in September 2009.
BMW was Canada's most popular luxury brand in September. Year-to-date, however, Mercedes-Benz has sold 21,711 vehicles; BMW is down at 20,015.
Like the U.S. Auto Sales By Brand post for September 2010, bold now means luxury marques, italics mark out the brands with declining sales. Low-volume brands will be added mid-month at the same time Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep are separated brand-by-brand.
