August 2012 Small Luxury SUV Sales And Midsize Luxury SUV Sales In America

U.S. Acura RDX sales continue to rise rapidly, climbing 157% in August 2012. With 16,863 sales through eight months, the RDX has closed the gap with the Mercedes-Benz GLK to just 72 units.

For the first time since December sales of Audi's Q5 declined on a year-over-year basis. Year-to-date, however, Q5 sales have risen 15%, right in line with the overall new vehicle market's growth. 

You'll notice the addition of a new vehicle in this month's lux SUV/CUV post. The BMW X1 went on sale in the United States in August. 576 found buyers. The X1 has been on sale in Canada for 17 months. An average of 408 are sold in Canada each month, but the Canadian market is approximately eight times smaller than the U.S. market.

All 262 Vehicles Ranked By U.S. August YTD Sales 

Volvo set a U.S. monthly sales record with the XC60 in August. Its previous record of 1782 units was posted a month earlier. Volvo needs the XC60 to do well. After all, the XC90 is gradually disappearing. Year-to-date XC90 sales are down 7%.
