*updated 5/12/2011 with Bentley, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Maserati*
New vehicle sales in Canada grew 6.9% in April. "Light truck" sales still hoovered up more than half of all new vehicle sales - Canada's top-selling Ford F-Series led the way with 9305 sales - while the GMC and Jeep brands threw up conflicting information on whether or not Canadians are still starved for SUVs and tantalized by trucks.
The F-Series, by itself, was more popular than all but the Honda, Hyundai, Chevrolet, Dodge, and Toyota brands. With the F-Series in tow, the Blue Oval posted a 9.6% year-over-year bump and is up 9% year-to-date. The biggest mover in April 2011 was Saab, going from nothing in April 2010 to a measly 21 sales last month. Maserati, a low-volume player to be sure, was up 58.3%. Volkswagen sold like never before as its total moved up 53%. Kia and Porsche also managed to find more buyers than in any month in history.
On the flip side, Acura sales plummeted 20.3%. Suzuki fell 15.1%. GMC slid 14.1%. And six other brands sold fewer new vehicles in April 2011 than in April 2010. BMW took advantage of Mercedes-Benz's faltering to become Canada's best-selling luxury brand.
As was the case with the U.S. auto market earlier today, here is the complete rundown of Canada Auto Sales By Brand for April 2011.
