FUEL ECONOMY IN CAR AND DRIVER JULY 2010

audi a3
More than ever, the Environmental Protection Agency's fuel economy ratings bear semblance to reality. Just think, GoodCarBadCar.net's long-term smart fortwo frequently beats the EPA's city rating in 100% city driving. Car & Driver's long-term 2010 Honda Insight is averaging just two miles per gallon less than the EPA's listed average for the Insight. The Hyundai Genesis 3.8 which won a comparison test in the July issue of Car & Driver finished the test averaging two miles per gallon better than the what the EPA lists as the Genesis' average.

That's the good news. The bad news is that the EPA's testing procedures remain formulaic, unable to properly assess stop-start technology, and unlike the world in which we live. Real-world fuel efficiency results from an issue of Car & Driver are therefore rather helpful.
