U.S. SALES OF LARGE CARS - APRIL 2010

Don't take the word "large" too seriously. Some of the cars in the Graph below are gigantic; others closer to midsize classification. To put it simply, these are big cars which don't fit in other categories, not with Large Luxury Cars like the Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid or in the Midsize Car Sales Graph with the Hyundai Sonata.

In the case of certain large mainstream cars, buyers have very specific desires. As a small car lover (but an appreciator of large car serenity) it can be difficult for me to wrap my head around why anybody in their right mind would opt for the severely uglified Toyota Avalon. Bucketloads of space and a trunk fit for a capo in the New York mafia don't make the heavily advertised Avalon an appealing vehicle. Not to me. But there is a crowd out there, a small but enduring crowd, that values space, calm, and relative luxury more than image or dynamics or... well, image.
