For the seventh time in the last eight months, Honda Canada has reported a year-over-year increase in Civic sales. We've already realized that the Civic's half-year lead over the Hyundai Elantra is almost certainly solid enough to overcome Hyundai's introduction of the Elantra GT and Coupe. 

The table visible after the jump (along with the accompanying charts which you can click for a larger view) show the Civic's dominance against various small cars from different subsegments. For example, the Honda Civic outsold the Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta, Canada's fifth and ninth-best-selling cars, combined. The Civic sells 9.5 times for every sale of Honda's subcompact, the Fit.

As for that subcompact category, Canadians made the segment (Sonic, Fiesta, Fit, Accent, Rio, 2, Versa, Prius C, Yaris) a 10,805-unit segment in June 2012. Four of those cars landed on Canada's list of June's 20 best-selling cars. Hyundai's class-leading Accent stole precisely one-quarter of the market. These numbers could be adjusted depending on which cars you classify as subcompacts. Fiat 500? smart fortwo? Scion iQ? Mini Cooper? Nissan Cube? Kia Soul? Regardless, the Hyundai rests atop the leaderboard.

Canada's midsize leader squeaked out a victory in June 2012. The Toyota Camry finished just 27 sales ahead of the Ford Fusion which itself finished just 22 sales ahead of the Nissan Altima. At this time last year, both the Fusion and Altima were taking advantage of poor Camry and Accord supply to post incredibly high midsize sales figures. When their replacements are fully stocked in Canadian showrooms, the Fusion and Altima should pose a more consistent challenge to the Camry. 312 of the Camrys sold in Canada in June were hybrids. Hyundai sold 109 Sonata Hybrids.

The Toyota Avalon was one of Canada's 10 worst-selling cars in June as it finished 1092 sales behind the Ford Taurus. The Taurus, for the second consecutive month, finished as the best-selling big mainstream brand car in Canada. Singing a duet, the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger outsold the Taurus by 29 units.
