Canada Auto Sales By Brand - November 2011

2012 Fiat 500 Abarth
Chrysler Canada sales were up 6.1% to 16,244 in November 2011. With eleven months complete, Chrysler Canada is up 13.5% having sold nearly 26,000 more vehicles in eleven months this year than the company did last year. Playing no small role in this achievement is the Fiat brand, nonexistent in North America in 2010 but accounting for 5108 sales of Chrysler Canada's total in 2011.

The Canadian car buying populace wasn't terribly kind to all the Detroit brands in November, however. Ford, Dodge/Ram, Chevrolet, Buick, Lincoln, and Cadillac all reported declines from November 2010 levels. Buick most keenly felt the losses, falling 29%.

Still, Buick's drop wasn't the worst decline in November. Porsche sales plunged 44% in Canada last month as old 911 inventory dried up, Boxster and Cayman sales jointly fell 41%, and the Cayenne and Panamera were left to make things happen. They didn't. Panamera sales dropped 50% and the Cayenne (up 45% year-to-date) slid 43%.

Porsche, of course, makes up a sliver of the Canadian market. And though sales in Canada's favourite Blue Oval-wearing showrooms were down slightly in November, Ford sales remain up 3.6% this year. Dodge is up 9% through eleven months. Chevrolet is hanging on to a narrow 1.6% improvement. Buick and Cadillac's rough autumn hasn't been enough to drag them back to 2010-like volumes, either.

None of these brands formed the major November auto sales story in Canada. Toyota, Honda, and Nissan were up 20%, 18%, and 13%, respectively. After months of pain, it appears as though Toyota Canada is firmly back on track while Honda's November was strong enough to fend off Chevrolet and Hyundai.
