The location of the frature is troubling. If, during deployment, the fracture occurs at the inflator tube, pieces of that tube could strike the occupants of the vehicle. Bad news. Besides, the airbag wouldn't properly inflate.
Sometime this month General Motors will be notifying the owners and dealers will replace the airbag on that side of the car. It's not easy work, and it's very expensive. Surely GM was more than happy to discover they needed to contact just 79 owners.
